Dr. Ahmed Hussein (1944–2017) was a distinguished Egyptian mechanical engineer and professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University. He graduated from Ain Shams University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 1975. Throughout his career, Dr. Hussein was devoted to teaching, research, and authorship, contributing valuable works to Egypt’s engineering literature. His most renowned achievement was leading the 2006 relocation of the 83-ton statue of Ramses II from downtown Cairo to the Grand Egyptian Museum—a project that demonstrated exceptional engineering innovation. His ingenious design, which allowed the statue to remain perfectly upright during transport, became a symbol of Egypt’s modern engineering excellence. Even after his passing in 2017, Dr. Hussein’s legacy continues to inspire future generations of engineers.
