نبذة مختصرة
Dr. Sherif Morad Abdelmohsen is Associate Professor (on leave) at the Department of Architecture, Ain Shams University, and Associate Professor of Digital Media and Design Computing at the Department of Architecture, American University in Cairo (AUC). He received his PhD in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA (2011) and his MSc (2004) and BSc (2000) in Architectural Engineering from Ain Shams University. He is a licensed architect in Egypt, R&D developer and team leader at UNii Engineering Consultancy, researcher in the area of computer aided architectural design (CAAD), and has been involved in teaching and research at U.S. and Egyptian universities including Georgia Institute of Technology (GT), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Ain Shams University, British University in Egypt (BUE), Future University in Egypt (FUE), and Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). His research interests involve a variety of topics related to CAAD, digital media and design cognition, including building information modeling (BIM) and preoccupancy evaluation, space layout planning (SLP) and automated building review systems, intelligent facility and asset management, generative and parametric design and digital fabrication, interactive and responsive architecture, analyzing design activity, and qualitative methods in understanding the relationship between design and technology. His recent research focuses on how digital technologies can enhance conceptualization-to-fabrication as well as operation and facility management workflows, how they can be evaluated in situated practice, and how to develop technologies based on the activity-oriented tacit view of the workplace. He has publications in journals and conferences including Automation in Construction (AUTCON), Advanced Engineering Informatics (ADVEI), International Journal of Architectural Computing (IJAC), Architectural Design (AD), Revista DeArquitectura, CAADFutures, ACADIA, eCAADe, DCC, IBPSA, DRS, CAADRIA, SIGRADI, IASDR, PACT and ASCAAD. He also served as reviewer for the Automation in Construction and Ain Shams Engineering journals, eCAADe, CAAD Futures, ASCAAD and ACADIA conference venues. In 2012, he was awarded the faculty award of merit for best doctoral presentation, and in 2009 he was awarded the ARCC/King Student Medal for Excellence in Architectural + Environmental Design Research.
