Dr. Samah El-Khateeb is a Professor in the Department of Urban Design and Planning at the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University. Fall of 2014 marked the beginning of her four-year tenure as head of the Architecture Department at Effat College of Architecture and Design in Saudi Arabia. She is the Principal investigator (PI) of the Smart and Future Cities Laboratory for Sustainable Urban Solutions (SFCL), which is funded by STDF, and the Cairo charter; a framework for environmental justice-driven Urban AI in Cairo & beyond, which is funded by Facebook Research. In addition to being the Egyptian PI of another two research projects funded from British Council and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Her research focuses on smart cities, urban AI as well as sustainable neighborhood and environmental planning. She has worked as the principal investigator for many Egyptian German research projects, notably the Ezbet Project, since 2011. additionally, she is an urban planning consultant for many projects since 2011 till now. Her practical work including working in informal settlement, participatory planning, strategic and detailed planning in addition to urban development of upper Egypt project and local area development plan of informal areas in Egypt.
