In a new academic and research achievement added to the faculty's record of accomplishments, the student team of the "Water and Hydraulic Structures" program at the faculty won first place in the "Best Graduation Project" competition, which was held on the sidelines of the international conference "Cairo Water Week" under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. President of the Republic.
This well-deserved win came after intense competition among 41 student teams representing various Egyptian governmental and private universities and specialized colleges.
The students presented an integrated project entitled: "Sustainable Integrated Development of Marsa Alam Region in the Red Sea," which relied on a multidisciplinary engineering vision to provide comprehensive and sustainable solutions to developmental challenges in the Marsa Alam region, including:
- Establishing the largest artificial lake in the Middle East
- Establishing a new international port and marina to enhance maritime and tourism traffic
- Designing integrated water networks to serve all developmental projects in the region
- Developing an integrated flash flood protection system to secure the entire Marsa Alam region
- Providing renewable energy sources to reduce the carbon footprint, while observing the highest standards of preserving the natural and distinctive environment of the region.
The students delivered a wonderful presentation of the project that received wide acclaim and great praise from all attendees and the jury, foremost among them H.E. Prof. Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and H.E. Prof. Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Within the framework of the state's support to benefit from youth ideas and practical applications of graduation projects, it was agreed with officials to arrange a special presentation of the project before Mr. Prof. Dr. Waleed Abdel Azeem El-Barqy, Governor of the Red Sea, during the near future, to discuss ways to benefit from these promising studies in developing the Marsa Alam region on the ground.
The administration of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University extends its sincere congratulations to its distinguished student sons and daughters for this honorable representation, and also directs the highest expressions of thanks and appreciation to the faculty members supervising the project in the Irrigation and Hydraulics Department, for their sincere efforts and continuous scientific patronage of the students.
