With 16 Architecture Teams Participating: Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University Concludes Major Architectural Design Competition in Mostakbal City in Collaboration with Medar
Under the slogan "Everyone Wins with Medar": Ain Shams Engineering students present creative visions for designing a cultural center and hub to support social and cultural development
The Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with Medar for Investment and Urban Development, concluded the major architectural design competition held under the slogan "Everyone Wins with Medar." The competition engaged 16 student teams from the Architecture Department to propose innovative concepts and designs for establishing a cultural center and community hub in Mostakbal City, New Cairo.
This initiative aligns with the Faculty's dedication to bridging academic education with real-world application, giving students the chance to undergo authentic design experiences tied directly to community needs and urban development projects, thereby sharpening their creative capacities and preparing them effectively for the job market.
Spanning 45 days, the students went through an integrated design journey starting with a site visit to Mostakbal City to analyze the location and program requirements, culminating in the preparation of design proposals and visionary ideas. This experience demonstrated the Faculty's pivotal role in translating academic knowledge into practical solutions serving society.
Competition Results and Awards:
The total prize pool amounted to EGP 870,000, distributed among all 16 participating teams in affirmation of the philosophy that every participant is a winner through hands-on experience and skill building:
- MEMORA team won 1st place with a prize of EGP 150,000.
- SIA team claimed 2nd place with a prize of EGP 150,000.
- Form Follows Curiosity team secured 3rd place with a prize of EGP 150,000.
- Three teams placed 4th through 6th, receiving EGP 90,000 each.
- The remaining 10 teams were awarded incentive prizes of EGP 15,000 each.
Statement by Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat – Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University:
He stated that the competition represents a distinguished model of partnership between academia and the real estate development sector, enabling students to transition theory into practice and evaluate their creative skills within real projects serving community goals.
He added that the involvement of Architecture students through site investigations and contextual studies enhanced their design capabilities and linked academic knowledge with actual development challenges, reaffirming the Faculty's commitment to nurturing innovation and introducing students to the labor market and national projects.
He expressed appreciation to Medar for this initiative, emphasizing that such collaborations enrich the educational process and contribute to preparing future-ready engineers capable of delivering sustainable solutions.
