Industry Academia
Overview
Introduction
The Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University is one of Egypt’s leading engineering schools, recognized for excellence in education, research, and community service. Building on this foundation, the faculty is expanding a structured industry–academia framework that enables companies to engage with our experts, laboratories, students, and alumni; collaborate on applied research; access technical services and training; and recruit top graduates.
We operate a professional, long-term partnership model with clear action plans and facilitated matchmaking between industrial partners and relevant faculty members, research groups, and graduation projects. This approach accelerates problem identification, translation into research questions or prototypes, and subsequent testing, validation, and scaling into deployable solutions.
For industry, the framework provides a direct, interactive gateway to departmental expertise, research and testing facilities, and centers of excellence—delivering actionable, validated outcomes. For our academic community, sustained engagement with companies aligns research with market needs, refreshes curricula to reflect industrial practice, and offers students hands-on experience through course projects, graduation projects, and internships.
Collectively, these collaborations enrich scientific research, develop the skills of students and engineers, and generate practical insights for industry—strengthening Egypt’s innovation ecosystem, closing capability gaps, and advancing national economic growth.
Industry collaboration activities include:
- Facilitating direct communication between industrial partners and distinguished faculty researchers, and connecting them with the most suitable research groups to collaborate on solving industrial challenges and developing solutions, with mutual agreement on objectives and success criteria.
- Creating an environment for open knowledge exchange through seminars, workshops, and meetings to explore shared challenges and shape new research directions; while being prepared to conclude funded/contracted, tailored research collaboration agreements when needed.
The Faculty of Engineering will also work to transform industrial challenges into prototypes and pilot deployments, expand access to the testing services provided by the Faculty’s laboratories, build the capabilities of company engineers through training and targeted courses, and strengthen talent pathways for students and graduates through cooperative training and employment opportunities. In short, we aim to provide an integrated pathway—from problem to solution, from idea to implementation, and from the classroom to career-that enhances industrial competitiveness, academic excellence, and national economic growth.
