Scientific Conference of the Structural Engineering Department at Ain Shams Engineering Discusses Academic Development and Future Challenges
The Scientific Conference of the Structural Engineering Department was held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Seminar Hall of the Faculty’s Central Library, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Dr. Ayman Hussein Hosny Khalil, Acting Head of the Structural Engineering Department Council, along with a distinguished group of faculty members, teaching assistants, students, and researchers.
In his speech during the conference, Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, highlighted the significant role played by the department’s professors in designing and managing major national projects. He stressed the importance of enhancing research funding through partnerships with the industrial sector in order to strengthen the link between scientific research and development needs. He also emphasized the necessity of continuously monitoring and improving the quality and regularity of the educational process within the faculty.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Ayman Hussein Hosny Khalil, Acting Head of the Department Council, stated in his opening speech that the conference represents an important platform for evaluating the department’s progress and reviewing its contributions to both the academic and professional communities. He also noted that the conference included honoring a distinguished group of professors who played a major role in establishing and developing the department.
He affirmed that throughout its history, the department has remained a fundamental pillar in preparing highly qualified engineers capable of addressing modern challenges and actively participating in major national projects that support development efforts in Egypt. Graduates and professors of the department have also contributed significantly to supporting the state’s administrative system, with many of them assuming leadership positions, including the presidency of the university and the deanship of the faculty.
The conference served as an opportunity to review the achievements of the past ten years and to develop an ambitious future vision aimed at maintaining the department as a beacon of science and innovation and a center for preparing distinguished engineering professionals capable of creativity and responsibility.
The conference also addressed several current challenges, most notably keeping pace with rapid developments in digital technologies and their applications in design and construction fields, meeting the evolving demands of the labor market, enhancing applied scientific research linked to community needs, promoting sustainable development concepts, and improving educational infrastructure while creating an environment that encourages innovation.
The conference included honoring a number of late professors, as well as several faculty members and teaching assistants who contributed significantly to enriching the educational process.
The event concluded with six scientific lectures, during which department professors presented examples of their research and innovative applied work in the field of structural engineering. The lectures highlighted solutions to implementation challenges and the development of specialized software supporting structural engineers in design and structural assessment tasks.
