Ain Shams University Faculty of Engineering Organizes a Student Salon on Psychological and Academic Pressures for Engineering Students
As part of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University's commitment to supporting its students psychologically and humanely alongside academic excellence, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, the Conferences Committee at the faculty, in cooperation with the Sun Salon at the Department of Urban Design and Planning, organized a student salon on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, titled "SOS: Zombie Engineer Apocalypse" ("الحقونا: كارثة المهندسين الزومبي"), in an interactive experience taking the form of Stand-up Therapy, to discuss the psychological and academic pressures faced by engineering students.
The event aimed to provide a space for dialogue and expression of challenges associated with student life, including successive projects, submissions, and continuous pressures, by combining psychological awareness, entertainment, and direct interaction with students.
The salon hosted the Arise Wellness Hub team, with the participation of Dr. Samy Labib, a specialist in mental health, addiction treatment, and family counseling; Dr. Lamiaa El-Sharaky, a mental health and family counseling consultant and certified international trainer in thinking, leadership, and self-development; and Coach Samh Abu Zeid, a specialist in marital relationships, neurolinguistic programming, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Marwa Abou El-Fotouh Khalifa, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Germine El-Gohary, Head of the Department of Urban Design and Planning, alongside a number of faculty members and assistant staff in the department, and wide participation from faculty students, especially from the Architecture and Electrical departments.
The event included an interactive comedic sketch that satirically addressed situations from daily life within the Faculty of Engineering, and the pressures associated with study, projects, and submission deadlines, adding an atmosphere of fun and encouraging students to interact and participate.
Students were also given the opportunity to raise questions about how to deal with academic and psychological pressures, achieve a balance between study and personal life, and manage sleeplessness and continuous stress. The specialists provided a set of practical guidelines to help manage pressures and deal with them in a more balanced manner.
The event concluded with an interactive session that included exercises on breathing regulation, relaxation, and stress relief, providing participants with the opportunity to restore calm and enhance awareness of the importance of taking care of mental health.
The organization of this event comes within the framework of Ain Shams Engineering's keenness to diversify activities and events that contribute to supporting students, enhancing mental health awareness, and contributing to providing a balanced university environment that helps them face academic and professional challenges.
