Global Achievement: Ain Shams University EERI Student Chapter Honored
In the presence of Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, the General Assembly of the Civil Engineers Society at the Egyptian Engineers Society, headed by Prof. Dr. Hussein Mohamed Hassan Abbas, hosted a distinguished celebration honoring Egyptian student achievements on the international stage. The event was attended by prominent academic and engineering leaders, including Prof. Dr. Hany Mohamed El-Hashemy (Vice President), Prof. Dr. Amr Aly Abdel Rahman (Secretary General), Dr. Tarek El-Hashemy, and an esteemed group of society members and experts.
At the outset of the proceedings, the Society celebrated the Ain Shams University Earthquake Engineering Student Chapter (EERI) in recognition of winning 3rd place worldwide in the Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition—a milestone that highlights the excellence of young Egyptian engineering talent and their capability to compete in prestigious global scientific forums.
International Achievement Details:
The Faculty of Engineering team accomplished this outstanding victory during their participation in the 23rd Annual Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition, organized by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) in Portland, Oregon, USA, competing against teams representing 46 universities worldwide.
The Ain Shams team secured 3rd place in the overall ranking, along with three honorary recognitions: the Best Architectural Design Award, the Best Team T-Shirt Design Award, and the Most Improved Team Award.
In his speech during the celebration, Prof. Dr. Amr Shaat praised the exceptional efforts and innovative engineering solutions presented by the students during this global competition. He also appreciated the Civil Engineers Society's support, noting that this recognition is the first of its kind adopted by a specialized scientific society to celebrate student talent, effectively bridging academic education with professional and applied practice.
