As part of Ain Shams University’s commitment to honoring its outstanding students, nurturing student talent, supporting their participation in international competitions, and providing an educational and research environment aligned with the University’s strategy of promoting innovation and excellence, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abdeen, President of Ain Shams University, honored students from the Faculties of Engineering and Computer and Information Sciences who won international awards in global competitions.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Dr. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences; Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs; and Prof. Sherine Rady, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences for Community Service and Environmental Development.

University President Congratulates Students and Their Families

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abdeen expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the students’ parents, who spared no effort in supporting their children, emphasizing that they are truly among the happiest people when they see the fruits of their efforts realized.

He also praised the students for their outstanding efforts, stressing that the true value of participation does not lie solely in winning, but rather in believing in one’s abilities and having self-confidence. He noted that such confidence represents the first step toward success, regardless of the final results.

The University President emphasized that the role of an innovator is to generate an idea and work on developing it, while institutions must embrace these ideas, seek to market them, and help bring them to life.

He also praised the prominent role of the University’s faculty members, describing them as the cornerstone of the educational process. He explained that developing and shaping the academician is among the most challenging and valuable goals the University seeks to achieve.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa further highlighted the University’s positive and effective role in contributing to the resolution of national challenges, encouraging students to continuously seek practical solutions to the problems facing their country and stressing that science is the only path to achieving this goal.

At the conclusion of his speech, he expressed his sincere wishes for the students’ continued progress, excellence, and success.

Vice President for Education and Student Affairs Congratulates the Winning Teams

Prof. Dr. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, congratulated all participating teams on their major achievement, describing it as a source of great pride.

He emphasized that the true secret of success lies in teamwork, noting that cooperation and solidarity among team members are what make the difference and lead to outstanding achievements.

He stressed that, in order to continue achieving major successes and build on what has already been accomplished, the University must maintain and further develop this approach.

He also called on students to remain connected to the University even after graduation, emphasizing that it is the foundation from which they launched their careers and will remain their partner throughout their journey of success.

Faculty of Engineering – Wind Turbine Team Achieves Third Place Globally

Prof. Dr. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, reviewed the establishment and development of the Wind Turbine Team, which won third place globally in the International Small Wind Turbine Competition (ISTWC), held in the Netherlands.

He explained that the team was established in 2017 with the aim of developing a core group of researchers and students specializing in this field.

The team has participated in the International Small Wind Turbine Competition, organized by Hanze University of Applied Sciences and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, since 2017.

He noted that this is the first time the team has achieved such a high ranking since its establishment. He also pointed out that the Ain Shams University team is the first team from outside Europe to participate in the competition.

Over the years, more than 200 students from various Faculty of Engineering programs have participated in the team’s projects, including the Energy, Mechanical Power, Production, and Mechatronics programs. The projects have been undertaken as graduation projects by final-year students, as well as practical training projects by younger students.

The competition aims to design and build small wind turbines capable of generating the maximum possible amount of energy. Participating teams are evaluated based on safety and security considerations, mechanical and electrical efficiency, cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and the aesthetic quality of the design.

The team previously won the Best Annual Energy Production Award and the Best Turbine Manufacturing Award in 2019 and 2022.

This year, the team participated in the competition held in the Netherlands from July 7 to 10, 2026, alongside 14 universities from around the world.

Prof. Dr. Amr Shaat praised the University’s continuous support and expressed his pride in the team’s achievement and its contribution to raising the name of Ain Shams University at international competitions.

Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences – Continued International Excellence

Prof. Dr. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, highlighted the Faculty’s continuous commitment to establishing effective partnerships with software companies and the industrial sector, contributing to the development of students’ skills and enhancing their competitiveness.

She explained that the Huawei team, which has participated in the competition on multiple occasions and won first place last year, continued its outstanding performance this year by winning the Grand Prize twice, in the fields of Cloud Computing and Advanced Computing.

The competition was hosted in Shenzhen, China, and is considered one of the largest and most important international competitions specializing in information and communications technology.

She also highlighted the achievement of a second team from the Faculty, which participated in a renewable energy hackathon organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The hackathon focused on developing AI-powered smart solutions for the new and renewable energy sector and was held as part of the fourth edition of the University AI Capacity-Building Initiative, organized by MCIT in cooperation with Dell Technologies.

The winning project stood out for its innovative use of artificial intelligence technologies to serve the new and renewable energy sector.

Honoring the Winning Students

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abdeen, President of Ain Shams University, presented certificates of appreciation to the outstanding members of the student teams and the faculty members who supervised them.

Commemorative photographs were also taken to document this distinguished achievement, which reflects the ability of Egyptian youth to compete, excel, and lead on the international stage.
