ASUWind Team Honored for Winning Third Place Globally in the Small Wind Turbine Competition

Ain Shams University President Joins AOI Chairman in Honoring ASUWind Team for Winning Third Place Worldwide in the International Small Wind Turbine Contest
Professor Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, joined Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), in honoring the ASUWind team from the Faculty of Engineering during a ceremony held at the AOI headquarters. The recognition celebrated the team's outstanding global achievement after securing third place worldwide in the International Small Wind Turbine Contest (ISTWC), held in the Netherlands from July 7 to 10, 2026, with the participation of leading universities from around the world.
The ceremony was attended by Major General Eng. Abdel Rahman Abdel Azim Othman, AOI General Manager; Major General Eng. Mohamed Awad, Chairman of the Aircraft Factory; Professor Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University; in addition to the academic supervisors and the award-winning students.
During the ceremony, Professor Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen emphasized that this international achievement reflects the outstanding academic caliber of Ain Shams University Faculty of Engineering students and their ability to compete and excel on the global stage. He noted that the University places great importance on supporting scientific research and innovation while providing an environment that enables its students and researchers to transform their ideas into projects capable of competing internationally.
The University President also expressed his sincere appreciation to Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, for the technical and manufacturing support provided by the AOI, which played a pivotal role in the project's success. He explained that the AOI Aircraft Factory was responsible for manufacturing the wind turbine blade molds and producing the blades in accordance with the highest standards of quality and precision, significantly enhancing the team's competitiveness throughout the competition.
He further stressed that this achievement represents a successful model of partnership between the University and national institutions, stating:
"Today, we celebrate a successful national partnership between a university that believes in science and a national institution that believes in industry. This partnership has resulted in a global achievement of which we are all proud, and we look forward to expanding its horizons in advanced manufacturing, new and renewable energy, and technological innovation."
For his part, Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, expressed his pride in honoring the research team, emphasizing that supporting innovators and researchers remains one of the AOI's top priorities. He affirmed the organization's commitment to building effective partnerships with Egyptian universities to transform scientific research outcomes into industrial applications that contribute to supporting the national economy.
He also praised the scientific and research achievements of Ain Shams University at both the regional and international levels, affirming the AOI's continued commitment to providing technical, manufacturing, and training support to distinguished researchers and students.
During the ceremony, Eng. Rami Mohamed Awad, representing the ASUWind team, expressed the team's deep appreciation for the support provided by the Arab Organization for Industrialization. He noted that the manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise offered by the AOI played a major role in the project's success. He also thanked Ain Shams University and its leadership for their continuous academic support, which enabled the team to achieve this global accomplishment.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Professor Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, honored the academic supervisors of the team: Professor Adel El Sabbagh, Professor Tamer El Nady, Professor Ashraf Mostafa, and Professor Mahmoud Abdallah. They also presented the ASUWind team members with certificates of appreciation and the AOI Medals of Honor in recognition of their distinguished global achievement.
The Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization also presented the AOI Shield to Professor Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Professor Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, in appreciation of their support for scientific research and the nurturing of talented students. The ceremony concluded with commemorative photographs featuring the team members, reflecting the spirit of cooperation between the University and the Arab Organization for Industrialization and their shared commitment to supporting Egypt's creative youth.
