Ain Shams Engineering Honors Teams Behind Advanced Engineering Testing Developments at the Materials Properties and Quality Control Laboratory
Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and as part of the Faculty of Engineering’s commitment to supporting scientific research and promoting engineering innovation, the Faculty Council meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, witnessed the honoring of the work teams involved in developing two important tests at the Materials Properties and Quality Control Laboratory of the Structural Engineering Department. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Marwa Aboul Fotouh Khalifa, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim Abdel Aziz, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and the esteemed members of the Faculty Council.
The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Ayman Hussein Hosny Khalil, Acting Head of the Structural Engineering Department Council, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Moaty, Professor at the Structural Engineering Department.
Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, honored Prof. Dr. Hany El-Shafie and Dr. Hisham Skeirj from the Structural Engineering Department – Materials Properties and Testing Laboratory, in recognition of their efforts in the project:
- Design and Implementation of a Stress Relaxation Losses Test Machine for Prestressing Strands
- (Stress Relaxation Losses Test for Pre-stressing Strands)
The testing machine was designed and manufactured in cooperation with Orascom Construction. A verification test was conducted to evaluate the machine’s efficiency by comparing the results of identical samples tested using the locally manufactured machine and another accredited laboratory in Europe. The machine was subsequently approved by the National Authority for Tunnels – Ministry of Transport.
The Dean also honored Prof. Dr. Ehab Fawzy and Dr. Mahmoud Galal from the Structural Engineering Department – Materials Properties and Testing Laboratory, in recognition of their efforts in the project:
- Development of an Axial Force Fatigue-Testing Machine for Prestressing Steel
- (Axial Force Fatigue-Testing Machine for Prestressing Steel)
The device has already been accredited by major consulting offices and governmental authorities and has been successfully used to conduct fatigue tests on prestressing steel under axial tensile loading. A patent application, numbered EG/P/2022/1638, has also been submitted to the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority and is currently under examination.
The Faculty of Engineering – Ain Shams University reaffirmed its continued support for applied projects that contribute to the development of laboratory systems and enhance the quality of services provided by the University to national projects, further strengthening its role as a leading academic institution in engineering, innovation, and community service.
