A New Global Achievement for Ain Shams Engineering Students Second and Third Place Worldwide in ASHRAE Competitions
Students of the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, have continued to excel on the international stage, achieving a new global accomplishment by securing second place worldwide in the HVAC Design Competition and third place worldwide in the Setty Family Foundation Net Zero Energy Design Competition, both organized by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
Second Place Worldwide – HVAC Design Competition
A student team from the Faculty achieved second place worldwide in the HVAC Design Competition, following strong competition with student teams from universities and educational institutions around the world. This achievement reflects the excellence of the Faculty’s students in engineering design, energy-efficiency applications, and sustainability.

Third Place Worldwide – Net Zero Energy Design Competition
In another international achievement, a second student team from the Faculty secured third place worldwide in the Setty Family Foundation Net Zero Energy Design Competition.
The team developed an integrated project combining engineering innovation, sustainability, and energy efficiency, aiming to develop design solutions for buildings that achieve a balance between energy consumption and energy generation.
The project featured collaboration between the Mechanical Power Engineering Department, Electrical Power Engineering Department, and the Environmental Architecture and Urban Planning Program, reflecting the integration of different engineering disciplines.

Recognition of Ain Shams Engineering Students’ Achievement
Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, expressed his great pride in and appreciation for this achievement. He extended his sincere congratulations to the winning students and supervisory committees, emphasizing that these results reflect the outstanding level of the Faculty’s students and their ability to compete at major international engineering events.
The winning students are scheduled to be officially honored by ASHRAE during its Annual Conference in January 2027 in Chicago, United States, in the presence of leading university professors, specialists, and engineers from around the world. The winning projects and achievements will also be showcased during the event.
