EERI & CIVIL S

ABOUT EERI

  • EERI Stands for Earthquake Engineering Research Institute is an international non-profit, technical society of engineers, geoscientists, architects, planners, public officials, and social scientists. EERI members include researchers, practicing professionals, educators, government, and buildings code regulators.
  • “ASU EERI” was established in June 2017
  • “ASU EERI” is the first Student Chapter to represent EERI in Middle East and North Africa.

ABOUT CIVIL S

  • “Civil S” was one of the first student activities in Faculty of Engineering Ain Shams University.
  • Civil S aims to develop the students in the technical and the non-technical track.

OUR VISION

To make a place, where students will feel empowered to learn about earthquake engineering and know about earthquake risks to prepare students for the future through meaningful experience.

OUR MISSION

We aim to have meaningful involvement, community engagement, leadership development and technical development by organizing various activities that pass on our knowledge of earthquake engineering to our fellow colleagues.

Main Events

  • The Seismic Design Competition (SDC): Seismic Design Competition is an annual international competition in the United States and held by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Students from all around the world compete for the best structural and architectural design for high rise buildings that are designed to be anti-earthquake while maintaining cost and aesthetics.  The structural model is built using Balsa wood and then its tested by the shaking table.
  • MOLA Competition: Mola Competition is a one-of-a-kind annual event organized by Civil S where civil engineering students meet and learn to push their creative boundaries and show the true wonders of structural engineering.
  • EERI Seminars: Every year managerial team organizes two seminars with national and international speaker about different topics related to earthquakes and Seismic design. The aim is to spread awareness about earthquakes risks and how to deal with them so we can bridge the gap between scopes of work and connect between students and researchers interested in this field.
  • EERI Academy: It consists of Architecture and Civil sessions divided into technical and non-technical sessions.
  • It aims to prepare engineers having sufficient knowledge about earthquakes with various soft skills helping them develop their future career.
