Pride and Appreciation of the Engineering Achievement of Relocating King Ramses II Statue
The department is always honored by all its members. By the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, it renews its pride and appreciation for the great engineer, who ideated and designed the great achievement of relocating the King Ramses II statue from Ramses Square (formerly known as Bab al-Hadid) to the site of the Egyptian Museum, who is Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein (may God have mercy on him), the emeritus professor in the department at that time, and also his students who assisted him in that achievement: Prof. Dr. Mostafa Rostom, the lecturer in the department at that time (and currently the Professor and Vice Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology for Training Affairs at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT)), who was responsible for supervising the manufacturing the equipment for transporting the statue and implementation in cooperation with the Arab Contractors Company, and Prof. Dr. Tamer Al-Nadi, the lecturer in the department at the time, who was responsible for vibration monitoring.
The statue was relocated on August 25, 2006, as a single unit without dismantling, standing tall and proud, greeting the crowds. This made its transport journey a procession rather than a funeral, as would have been the case if it had been transported lying on its back (as Prof. Dr. Ahmed said). This decision came after he proved that the risk of moving it in this manner was zero. Foreign experts in the field had criticized this method of transport, as proposals – before his idea – had suggested moving the statue lying on its back or dismantling it and then reassembling it afterward. However, Prof. Dr. Ahmed's study and the subsequent execution of the transport proved the soundness of his design and the ingenuity of the Egyptian scientist. Prof. Mostafa continued the journey after the death of Prof. Ahmed by transferring a large number of statues to the Grand Egyptian Museum.
We ask Allah for mercy, forgiveness, and the highest Paradise for Prof. Ahmed, and for continued progress and blessings in science, work, and life for Prof. Mostafa and Prof. Tamer, for the good of the country and people, the elevation of the land, the renaissance of the nation, and the betterment of humanity.
