Center of Excellence for Energy
The Center of Excellence for Energy is funded by USAID with the goal of advancing Egypt’s energy transition to aid the country in reaching its target of utilizing 42% renewable energy by 2035. A partnership between Arizona State University and Ain Shams University, Mansoura University, and Aswan University, as well as government and industry, the center aims to improve the capacity of Egypt’s higher education institutions to drive innovation, modernization, and competition in the energy sector as well as strengthening government policy to stimulate economic growth and address Egypt’s energy challenges.
The Center of Excellence for Energy (COE/E) supports the following activities:
- Developing high-tech energy laboratories for teaching and advancing innovative research.
- Providing funding and fostering opportunities for binational research projects with Arizona State University.
- Undergraduate research funding and competitions.
- Technical workshops, seminars, and professional certification programs.
- Faculty fellowship program at Arizona State University.
- Student exchange program at Arizona State University.
- Student internships at energy-sector organizations.
- Training on innovative teaching methods.
- Review and assessment of energy-related curriculum and benchmarking programs with top international universities.
An economically sustainable Technology Center has also been established at the faculty, and it is currently being equipped to link with industry, providing long-term support for the center by offering fee-based services.
