Brief
Ahmed El-Rafei received his B.Sc. with honor in Electronics and Communication Engineering and M.Sc. in Engineering Mathematics from Ain Shams University. In 2012, he received his Dr.-Eng. degree with distinction in Computer Science from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. Since 2012, Dr. El-Rafei is an Assistant Professor in the engineering physics and mathematics department, the faculty of engineering at Ain Shams University. Early in his career, he worked as a teaching and research assistant in the same department. He joined the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg for four years as a Ph.D. candidate and in summer 2015 as a guest professor. He is a reviewer of many international journals and research grants in addition to being part of the scientific committee of scientific conferences. Dr. El-Rafei has authored/coauthored many peer-reviewed conference and journal papers in addition to supervising master and PhD theses. He is a member of IEEE and the Egyptian Society of Language Engineering. Moreover, he has been a member of the Erlangen School of Advanced Optical Technologies SAOT and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Among his research interests are applied mathematics in engineering, signal and medical image processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
