Principles of Residential Development
What Will Learn?

Course AimsBy the end of the course the students will be able to relate elements and principles of design to the realm of architectural design process where analysis, synthesis, development and presentation are experienced. Students will design projects with simple functions focusing on the the configuration process considering the project concept, and/or inspiration. In this sense, students will start to understand creative problem solving (CPS) based on specific focus/objective.

Topics of Residential clustering, and the social impact of residential design decisions, affordability by design, quality of life and compact living in ‘Social Housing’ projects, and sustainable development in residential compounds, are some of the global challenges that will be discussed in this class. The reciprocal relationship that exists between the part, which in this case is the residential unit, and the whole (the residential building / residential cluster). The social nuances of different clustering approaches for residential buildings, and its impact on housing unit design. Lighting, ventilation, and accessibility are some of the functional criteria that fight for priority with social inclusion, aesthetics, economic efficiency, public health, and sustainability. -
