Geographical Information Systems in Water Engineering
What Will Learn?
-
Course AimsBy the end of the course the students will be able to: (1) Understand the main applications and uses of GIS. (2) Practice how spatial (vector and raster) data is input, exported, and analyzed in the GIS environment. (3) Demonstrate the nature, types, and formats of spatial data (4) Gain skills to apply the different analysis, management functions of GIS data. (5) Provide GIS support to water relating projects such as planning and design of infrastructure networks, volume and area capacity analysis of reservoirs in dam design, rainfall spatial analysis in environmental and hydrologic projects, estimation of earthworks in grading projects, and watershed delineation in hydrologic projects. (6) Develop standalone GIS-based models to model spatial and water related processes. (7) Recognize the importance of GIS programming in automating GIS solutions.
