Foundation Engineering (1)
What Will Learn?
-
Course AimsBy the end of the course the students will be able to: 1-Distinguish basic knowledge concerning different foundation engineering applications, including shallow and deep foundations. 2- Analyze and design shallow and deep foundations. 3- Define practical skills in the fields of shallow and deep foundations.
Requirements
CES361s
Description
-
English Description
Analysis and design of shallow foundation: strip footing, isolated and combined footings, strap beam footing. Interaction of shallow foundations with elastic soil: subgrade reaction model, contact pressure distribution, and settlement; raft and slab on grade. Deep foundations: types, classification of piles, bearing capacity of a single pile, settlement of a single pile, pile load tests, design of pile caps, and laterally loaded piles, pile group efficiency and settlement. Foundation on problematic soil: expansive, collapsible soil and soft clay. -
