Environmental Impact Assessment for Water Engineering Projects
What Will Learn?

Course Aims• Analyze specific case studies dealing with disasters (natural and human-induced) as well as global environmental threats, e.g. ozone depletion, desertification, deforestation, biogeochemical cycle disruption, water management. • Evaluate how the international donor system functions and the institutional and political processes that impact how sustainable development is implemented. • Consider some of the basic policy issues and problems of implementing sustainable development in both urban and rural regions of the developing and developed world. • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of sustainable development and environment preserve concept. • Consider the concept of environmental security as a unifying theme and paradigm for analysis and intervention at the state and global level. • Research the legislation which dictates the environmental assessment requirements in the student’s home country.

Introduction to EIA and sustainable development, Procedures of the environmental impact assessment: Screening, Scoping, Defining impacts, Comparing alternatives, Plans for mitigation and alleviation, Environmental auditing, Public participation, Environmental impact statement and reporting, Environmental management plan, Environmental laws. Examples for assessing the impacts of water resources projects on the environment and impacts of different activities on the water environment. -
