What Will Learn?

Course AimsThe aim of this course is to provide students with background necessary to: o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of reservoir planning, selection of dam site. o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of storage capacity, sedimentation and sediment flow. o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of multipurpose reservoirs. o Recognize different types of dams and component parts of dams. o Recognize factors governing the selection of type of dam. o Recognize factors governing the selection of earth dams. o Analyze seepage in earth dams. o Analyze stability of slopes in earth dams. o Analyze the causes of failure of earth dams. o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of forces acting on gravity dams. o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of gravity dam profile. o Analyze stability of gravity dams. o Recognize different types of spillways and the design criteria
