What Will Learn?

Course Aims• Recognize pile foundation analysis, Pile Group bearing Capacity analysis, and settlement analysis. Micro-piles design for historical buildings, Group Action efficiency, Settlement, and design of pile caps. • Classification of Dams and Design requirements of earth and rockfill dams, Seepage through earth dams-Stability of earth and rockfill dams, Filter Design (Gradation and Discharge), Construction monitoring of earth and rockfill dams. • Outline types of shoring system, Design of cantilever embedded walls, Design of free and fixed earth supported walls, Design of Tiebacks, and Anchored excavation, Design of Strutted, and Braced excavation. • Recognize construction of Shielded Tunnels, and TBM, Prediction of settlement around tunnels and analysis of lining.

Lateral earth pressure: active, passive earth pressures, and water pressure. Gravity retaining structures: action forces, sliding, overturning stability, and foundation stresses. Supported deep excavation: types of in-situ walls, analysis and design of in-situ walls, struts, tiebacks, wailing beams, and braced supported excavation. Slope stability: infinite slope, finite slope, mass methods, method of slices. Soil compaction: laboratory compaction tests, field compaction, compaction equipment, relative density, and site control of compaction. Tunnelling: types, construction of tunnels, lining straining action, and ground settlement. -
