What Will Learn?

Course AimsBy the end of this course, students will be able to: - Recognize the concept of "Urban Renewal" and its interlinked concepts such as, regeneration, revitalization, gentrification, redevelopment, and rehabilitation. - Understand the social, economic and legal aspects of urban renewal. Identify the reasons of deterioration of the urban environment specifically in the developing countries. - Identify the typology of slums and squatter/informal areas - Evoke the urban upgrading and development policies with focus on the urban renewal approach - Analyze the successes and failures of urban renewal - Get the differences and similarities of global and local dimensions of urban renewal.
