Synchronous machines: construction, machine windings, armature reaction, induced voltage and developed torque, equivalent circuits, phasor diagrams, machine performance: motor and generator,, synchronization of machines, parallel operation, machine connected to an infinite bus, operating charts, v-curves, stability of synchronous machines, cooling and testing of three phase synchronous machines. Induction machines: construction of different types of induction machine, concept of rotating and pulsating fields, principles of operation of three phase induction motor, performance and torque-slip characteristics, conditions and methods of starting of three phase induction motor speed control of three phase induction motor, induction generator, and testing of three phase induction motor, single-phase induction motor -
