What Will Learn?

Course AimsThis course aims to: - Introduce the concepts of power quality issues and problems. - Develop student ability to analyze the theory behind power quality with actual power quality cases. - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of electrical power quality and its effects on power system performance. - Be able to deal with Monitoring considerations: Power line disturbance analyzer, power quality measurement equipment.

Definitions and standards, power quality “PQ” problems: voltage spikes, sags, swells, voltage fluctuations, voltage unbalance, harmonic distortion, power outages, brownouts, blackouts, frequency variations, electric noise, Causes and solutions to PQ problems, Surge suppressors, snubbers, shielding, active and passive filters, conditioners and UPS, Series and shunt compensations and applications on FACTS, Instantaneous real and imaginary power theory and applications on conditioning. PQ analyzers, parameters analyzed. PQ monitoring and management. -
