Innovative Strengthening Techniques for Concrete Members
Use of externally bonded Fiber reinforced polymers, (FRP), laminates is commonly used worldwide to enhance the flexural and shear capacities as well as the serviceability limit states of concrete members. Concrete beams, columns and slabs are tested experimentally and calibrated when strengthened with FRP. Use of externally prestressed FRP in strengthening applications is also gaining popularity due to its advantages in controlling cracks and deflection induced in the structural elements. FRP may be also used in strengthening masonry structures to increase its capacity and improve its cracking behavior. FRP laminates are easy-to-apply and an innovative technique to enhance the overall performance of concrete floors. This research aims to investigate the behavior of concrete members strengthened with FRP laminates and to introduce design guidelines for this type of application.
