What Will Learn?

Course Aims• Master of urban planning survey techniques and performing different urban analysis and conducting the different urban studies, • Formulate appropriate upgrading techniques for the deteriorated city districts, • Identify the different types of informal areas and using the proper upgrading techniques for both the deteriorated and informal districts. Describe Sustainability and development, their history and evolution, concepts, and principles. • Identify sociological and cultural, urban political, demographic, and ethnic issues and their impact on the urban built environment, • Evaluate and assess demographic and economic growth, trends, and policies, and • Correlate development scenarios with the Sustainable Development Goals.

CityLAB studio introduces students to the fundamental knowledge and technical skills used by urban planners to research, analyze, create and implement plans and projects for the built environment. The studio uses GCR and its districts and neighborhoods as a planning laboratory and students will be expected to understand the city through the lens of planning elements such as demographics; economic, market, social, cultural, environmental dimensions; urban character and built form; and public and private stakeholder interests, all of which shape the city and inform decisions about land use, development, and infrastructure. -
