What Will Learn?

    By the end of the course the student must be able to: Interpret basics of urban design and landscape theories and its applications in the fields Interpret effects and influences of surrounding urban context on the urban decisions. Identify relevant contemporary methodologies in environmental architecture, landscape and urbanism. Interpret Ecology and environmental management principles relevant to architecture, landscape and urbanism. Think in terms of three-dimensional aspects and integrate systems & technologies with innovation and creativity in the exploration of design, to achieve target sustainable measures. Interpret the significance of environmental issues and the interaction between human needs in terms of comfort and behavior, built environment and natural environment

    This course aims at acquainting the students with placemaking theory, as well as the idea of place identity. It examines different approaches, while highlighting the works of pioneers and different case studies in Egypt and the Mena Region. Concepts, such as: bringing nature into the city, DIY urbanism, tactical urbanism, planning by doing and urban prototyping are addressed. Differentiating one place from another is explained, showing the factors affecting place identity, while studying the relationship between the human and the surrounding environment. The course includes site visits.
