What Will Learn?

Course Aims- To enrich the students knowledge of the importance of power electronic converters in electrical systems and applications. - To develop the students ability to analyze and characterize different DC/DC converters, AC voltage regulators, and DC/AC converters (Inverters). - To gain practical skills for connecting, operating, and testing of different power electronics converters.

Pulse width modulation “PWM” techniques, Dc to Dc Converters: buck, boost, buck-boost, Cuk dc/dc converters. Quadrants of operation of DC to DC converters. Inverters: half-bridge, full-bridge, single-phase and three-phase bridge inverters, PWM modulation techniques. Applications: uninterruptible power supply (UPS), induction heating. Interfacing of Solar energy, Wind energy, Ocean energy with utility grid. Voltage Source Converters “VSC”, Applications in AC and DC systems. -
