ASU LEGENDS won second place in the HVAC System Selection Competition
The ASU LEGENDS team representing Ain Shams University Faculty of Engineering achieved second place globally in the ASHRAE Design Competition System Selection Category.
The first of August marked the declaration of the results for the ASHRAE Design Competition which is an annual competition where international universities participate in the design and selection of an HVAC system that achieves a set of requirements by the ASHRAE Competition Committee. These requirements focus on delivering a cost-effective, sustainable, and comfort-based design and selection of an HVAC system.
A team of seven members from Ain Shams University Faculty of Engineering participated in this esteemed competition in the system selection category of the competition presenting a report that showcased three systems for a public library in the center of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The team constructed a selection matrix to determine the most suitable system for the project based on the system's compatibility with renewable energy, system initial and operation cost, and several other vital factors. The selection matrix favored a system that can help the building reach net zero over a life cycle of 50 years by committing to achieving a high score in LEED (LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN).
