International Summer School: “Branding Saida”, jointly implemented by Ain Shams University and the Lebanese University


In the framework of international collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, and Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, the Lebanese University, a Summer School titled: “Branding Saida” An open canvas for urban regeneration solutions, took place in the period 23 – 31/7/2023. 
Under the auspicious of Prof. Omar El-Husseiny, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, and the organizing committee of Prof. Marwa Khalifa, Head of Environmental Architecture and Urbanism Program, and Director of the Graduate Engineering School for Research (GESR) and Dr. Noha Gamal, Coordinator of International Mobility, International Collaboration Office and Director of Soundscape Urban Ambiances Lab.

Branding Saida is a visionary initiative undertaken by a joint team of talented students from the Master of landscape architecture and Environment,  the Lebanese University and from the four Arcitecture programs at the Faculty of Engineering (Environmental Architecture and Urbanism Program, Landscape Architecture Program, Housing & Urban Development Programs, and Architecture Engineering Program),  Ain Shams University. The team worked on re-establish the historic city of Saida as a prominent tourist destination that seamlessly blends its rich heritage with modern appeal. 
Guided by a practical landscape approach strategy, the students envisioned reconnecting Saida to the sea and showcasing its significant archaeological and environmental treasures. By reviving these captivating landmarks, they aimed to attract both local and international tourism, breathing new life into the city's cultural and economic landscape. The project's inspiring visual presentation took place at the Municipality of Saida, attended by distinguished faculty members and officials from both universities. With the guidance of dedicated academics, the students showcased their innovative ideas, reflecting their passion for preserving history while embracing the future. 
The collaboration sets a precedent for further cross-border initiatives, fostering mutual learning and appreciation among future generations of aspiring architects and designers. Branding Saida stands as a symbol of hope and progress, reimagining the essence of a city with a promising future while cherishing its glorious past.
