What Will Learn?

  • Course Aims
    By the end of the course the students will be able to Understand the city, its evolution growth development its elements and components including cityscape and landscape. Differentiate between the levels and theories of urban planning and design. Understand sociological and cultural urban political demographic and ethnic issues and their impact on the urban built environment. Relate and connect socio-cultural, socio-political, and socio-economic issues to urbanism. Conduct research and collect data from different sources field work archival records the internet etc. Diagnose urban problems and Share ideas and communicate with others.

    The evolution of cities and their location, Old World Cities, Egyptian historical cities and the factors affecting its form, main Egyptian capital schemes through eras, Cairo urban history and Forces influencing the shaping of Cairo, the meaning of urbanism, the urban patterns and morphologies, utopia philosophers and urbanism, Industrial revolution and its implications for cities
