Course AimsThis course aims are to provide students with deep knowledge of the fundamental principles, design and operation of mechanical machines and mechanisms and understanding of the basic mechanisms used in machines and their performance. Also, to provide the ability to design simple common mechanisms and to perform kinematic and dynamic analysis of any mechanism

Mechanisms: Definitions, open-chain and closed-chain systems, constraints, degrees of freedom, steering mechanisms, inversions of mechanisms. Kinematics of machines: position analysis, velocity analysis, acceleration analysis. Kinetics of machines: equilibrium of machines, D’Alembert’s principle, force analysis, power analysis, inertia-effects and flywheel design. Synthesis of mechanisms. Cams: Types of cams, cam design, kinematics and kinetics of cam. Gears: Concept of gear motion, transmission, gear geometry and gear trains. Rotation matrix, homogeneous transformation matrix, direct and inverse kinematics -
