Design of Irrigation Structures
What Will Learn?
-
Course AimsThe aim of this course is to provide students with background necessary to: o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of planning an irrigation project. o Identify the different methods of alignment and synoptic diagrams of irrigation and drainage systems. o Design the cross sections and longitudinal sections of the irrigation and drainage systems. o Analyze and design the different types of retaining walls used in irrigation structures. o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the structures used at the intersection between waterways or between roads and waterways. o Identify the different types of crossing structures (bridges, culverts, syphons, aqueducts). o Propose different solutions for the crossing, compare between them, and then decide which solution is appropriate for the crossing. o Identify scour components under bridges o Calculate the loads on the structures for different cases of loading.
