Course AimsBy the end of the course the students will be able to: • Read piping and instrumentation diagrams and identify industrial control loops. • Design and tune Industrial control system • Program PLCs using ladder diagram, Instruction list and sequential function charts programming languages.

Industrial automation history and applications, automation system structure and components: sensors, signal conditioning, human interface, actuators, drivers, control systems, automation strategies. Logic systems design: principles of digital logic, design of combinational and sequential logic control systems. Hardwired ladder diagram. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC): Introduction, Hardware, programming Languages, Programming functions, Analogue modules, Special functions. Communications and Networks in automation systems; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA); Applications and relevant case Studies on FMS and CIM in Manufacturing and Production Systems, Digital Factory, Power Systems, Oil and Gas Industry, …, etc. In this course also fundamentals of industrial networks are presented to familiarize the student with the commonly used network protocols in industrial applications -
