What Will Learn?
-
Course AimsBy the end of this course, the student will be able to: • Compute the properties of plane areas including the determination of the principal axes and the principal moments of inertia. • Apply Bending Theory to Calculate Bending Stresses in beams. Evaluate the normal stress distribution in beams for the general case of double bending and normal force. Then, draw stress distribution. • Determine the distribution of shear stresses in homogeneous sections due to shearing forces and torsional moments. • Observe how the shear flow exists when wooden planks are loaded by a vertical load. Construct the shear flow diagram in thin walled sections and locate the shear center. Identify the effect of shear flow on built up members. • Classify the straining actions and their effects on engineering structures. • Justify the concept of principal stresses due to combined loading and able to verify the values of analytical solution using the graphical (Mohr’s circle) method.
