Solar and Wind Energy Systems
What Will Learn?

Course AimsThe aim of this course is to equip student with the basic concepts of the solar energy, several classifications, and the terminology used in the field. Students should be able to estimate solar resources (incidence angles, extra-terresterial and terrestrial irradiances). Students should be able to use basic heat transfer equations to estimate loss coefficient of flat and concentrating collectors. Students should be able to estimate optical performance of collectors such as glass transimisivity, optical performance of concentrating collectors, Also, should be able to estimate the thermal performance of flat and concentrating collectors. Student should be able to calculate tracking and storage effect and to sketch solar thermal plants with different technologies

Implementation of solar power in photovoltaic systems, solar heating, and concentrated solar power CSP. Estimation of wind resources wind energy and frequency curves. Airfoil theory and study of several types of vertical and horizontal axis wind turbines. -
