The Engineering Faculty team won first place in the 2024 Innovation Marathon


A team from the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, under the supervision of Dr. Samah El-Khateeb, Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Design, won first place in the "Artificial Intelligence for Smart Cities" category at the Benha University Innovation Marathon 2024. The event, titled "Artificial Intelligence Applications for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals", aims to foster innovation, support a knowledge-based economy, and align with Egypt's Vision 2030.
The team participated with the NEL Platform: Environmental Crisis Management project.
The NEL Platform is an advanced tool for monitoring and managing environmental emissions. It uses computer vision and machine learning to analyze satellite imagery, providing insights into emissions sources, industrial activity, and their environmental impact. The platform also monitors natural assets like mangrove trees and predicts the effects of floods.

  • Amjad Bakri Firas – Faculty of Computers and Information, Scientific Computing Department

Their project, supervised by Dr. Samah El-Khateeb, demonstrated the impactful use of AI in sustainable urban development, earning them top honors in the competition and won 10,000 LE prize.
