The ASU HVAC STARS team won first place locally and regionally in the ASHRAE Student Design Competition global competition
The ASU HVAC STARS team representing Ain Shams University, Faculty of Engineering, won first place globally in the ASHRAE HVAC Design Competition.
On August 1st, the results of the annual ASHRAE competition for HVAC system design was announced. This competition involves universities from around the world designing an HVAC system that meets a set of requirements established by the competition's organizing body.
A team of seven members from Ain Shams University, Faculty of Engineering, participated in this prestigious competition in the HVAC design category. The team presented a comprehensive report detailing the complete design of a central HVAC system for a public library in downtown São Paulo, Brazil. Their design focused on the system’s compatibility with renewable energy usage, initial cost, operating cost, and several other important factors.
The members of the ASU HVAC STARS
team are Kirollos Milad Faragalla and Mohamed Khairat Taha, Omar Mohamed Shaban, Omar Mohamed Ashraf, Mina Refaat Tawfik, Emmanuel Ayman Tawfik and Omar Khaled Hussien under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Hany El-Sayed Abdel Halim and Engineer Ahmed Lasheen from Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Engineering and Some of the engineers who participated in the competition before. The team achieved first place in Egypt and first place globally, as announced on the ASHRAE competition page. The rankings were as follows:
Ain Shams University secured first place,
the University of Nebraska–Lincoln took second place,
the University of Hong Kong took third place,
and York University received the Rising Star award.
This achievement was made in the presence of major universities worldwide, with six teams from Cairo University, as well as teams from Kafr El-Sheikh University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, and Tanta University representing Egypt. Internationally, the competition featured the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Lyon, York University, the University of Texas, Maharaja University of Technology, Lakehead University, Boise University, the University of Greece, and the State University of New York at Buffalo.
A representative from the team will travel to Orlando, Florida, in the United States from February 8th to February 25th, 2025, to represent the university and receive the award.
