Unit's Objectives and Activities

  • Analysis and Design of Concrete and Steel Structures using modern computer software.
  • Preparation of detailed drawings, bills of quantities and specifications, and project contracts.
  • Design and Revision of Designs of Special Structures such as:
    • Suspension Roofs.
    • All kinds of bridges.
    • High voltage and T.V. towers.
    • Tunnels.
    • Multi-Storey Garages.
    • Water Purification Plants.
    • Sewage Plants.
    • Electric Power Stations.
    • Tanks and Reservoirs, Silos, etc.
  • Strengthening and Repair of Unsafe or Cracked Structures.
  • Periodic and Continuous Supervision of Projects' Construction.
  • Preparation of Technical Reports on the Safety of Structures.
  • Study of the possibility of adding more storeys to existing structures.
  • Study of the seismic performance of structures.
  • Evaluation and pricing of existing structures, projects, lands, etc.

Equipment and Facilities

  • A number of personal computers.

  • Structural analysis and design computer programs.

  • Structural analysis and research laboratory (under development).

  • Schmidt Hammers.

Previous Practical Experience

  • Several technical reports on the safety or the possibility of adding more floors to existing buildings since 1996 till now.

  • Design and supervision of R.C. jackets for six of the columns of the administration building in the garage of the public transportation authority, Ather Al-Naby District, Cairo, 1997.

  • Design and supervision of the repair project of buildings E,G,H of Ain Shams University, male students residential city, Abbasia, Cairo, including the preparation of the bill of quantities and specifications, 1998.

  • Supervision of the repair process of the building of the students' general clinic, Ain Shams University, Abbasia, Cairo, 1998.

  • Design and supervision of the construction of R.C. and Steel floors to the old building of the computer center, Ain Shams University, 1999.

  • Supervision of the construction of light steel buildings for the faculty of specific education and for some institutes belonging to the Ministry of Higher Education, 1999.

  • Supervision of the construction of the University Engineers' Factory, Obour City, 1999.

  • Supervision of the construction of the building no. 3, Zaker Hussein St., Nasr City, Cairo, 1999.

  • Design of the additional floor, School of Nursing, Ain Shams University, 2000.

  • Preparation of the structural detailed drawings for the new building for lecture theatres, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, 2001.

  • Revision of the design of King Fahd School, Nasr City, Cairo, 2001.
