    Objectives

    The HECU aims at serving the society and contributing in transferring technology in the transportation, traffic, highway engineering fields. The HECU presents consulting services to owner clients and contractors in all pertaining specialized activities, that is, feasibility studies, planning, engineering design, preparation of construction documents, construction supervision, training programmes in addition to conducting laboratory and field tests in the HECU well established laboratory.

    • Feasibility studies for transport, traffic and road project.
    • Planning, geometric and structural design of road networks, intersections, interchanges, flyovers, tunnels, elevated roads and airports.

    • Pavement structural design for roads, airfields, parking lots, deck bridges and special heavy duty floors.
    • Transportation and traffic studies.
    • Planning and design of traffic control systems and devices.
    • Planning and design of car parks and multistory garages.
    • Pavement condition evaluation and maintenance management.
    • Stabilization and treatment of road and airfield embankments.
    • Hydrology studies and storm water drainage design for roads and airfields. The HECU has the latest versions of specialized software packages and CAD system in design and drafting through a highly equipped computer center. The previous experience of this HECU in this field includes:
    • Study regarding transportation of containers between Ather El-Nabi Terminal and customers in Cairo region.
    • Design of Roads connecting Borg Elarab and Elhaamam city with wadi El-Natroun/El Alamin Highway, length 48 km, 2000.
    • Upgrading of the eastern entrance of Cairo City, Cairo - El-Ismailia desert road, 99-2000.
    • Rehabilitation of King Faisal street corridor, 99-2000.
    • Upgrading of the eastern entrance of Cairo City, Cairo - El-Ismailia desert road, 99-2000.
    • Rehabilitation of King Faisal street corridor, 99-2000.
    • Feasibility study and design of wadi Al-Natroun/Al-alamin highway, 140 km length and the intersections with both Cairo - Alexandria desert road and Cairo - Matrouh road for the Ministry of Development, 95-1998.
    • Design of the Airport of Badr Eldin Petrolium company in the western desert, 1998.
    • Research study on Developing of a concrete mixture for use in quick rehabilitation of runways, 1998.
    • Design of El kosima - Rafah highway, the eastern international border road, 1998.
    • Feasibility study and geometric design of Ras Gharib airport, 1997.

    • This is in addition to the adverse experience of the HECU staff in the field in Egypt and the Arab countries.

     

    Field of Construction Supervision and Quality Control

    • Construction supervision of road, traffic and airport works.

    • Pavement quality control.

    • Advising clients in hand - over process.

    • Advising clients in tender analysis and prequalifying contractors.

    • Preparing special technical specifications and shop drawings.

    • Conducting road construction management schemes.

    The previous experience in this field includes:

    • Quality control supervision of the construction of the Northern International coastal road - Section 3, 2000.

    • Implementing quality control programmes for several roads in Marsa alam and Elhergada, 2000.

    • Supervising the implementation of the quality control programme for the ring road around Alexandria City, 2000.

    • Quality control tests for the ring road around Portsaid City 99-2000.

    • Supervision of the construction and quality control of rehabilitation of King-Faisal street corridor, 1999.

    • Supervising the implementation of the quality control programme of the ring road around Cairo, (Sections 1, 8, 9), 1998.

    • Supervising the quality control programme of western desert airport for Badr El din Company, 1998.

    • Supervising the quality control programme of the 26-July corridor, Ministry of Development, 1997-1998.

    • Periodical supervision of Wadi El-Natroun/El-Alamin highway, 1995-1998.

    • Sant Catreen Village in Sinai, Quality control for the construction of some roads and structures, 1996-1997.

    • Quality control works for Dream Land Village in 6 October City.

    • Quality control works for Dawi Factory in the 10th of Ramadan City.

    • Periodical wupervision on the construction of Taba - Ras El nakab road, 1996.

    • Construction supervision of the northern international road around marsa matrough city.

    • Quality control supervision of the paving and rehabilitation of the 05/23R runway and for the extension of Alfa taxiway in Cairo International Airport 1995.

    • Provisional hand-over report for several highway projects such as, Banha/Alkanatir road 35 km, and Abu-Alminagga/Al-Hadthah crossing road, 9 km and for the international residential road network in North Cairo Electrical substation, 1993.

    • Pavement evaluation of the road network of El-sharabia city.

    Field of Material Testing and Technical Advice

    The HECU runs a well equipped road materials laboratory by means of a highway qualified staff and technicians. The lab has a great reputation and experience in conducting laboratory and field tests for road and airport pavement materials and bituminous mix design.

     

    Field of Training and Technology Transfer

    • Conducting certified training programmes in road design, construction, supervision, quality control, to all levels of trainees from high executive to site engineers, and

    • inspectors.

    • Helding specialized conferences, seminars and exhibitions.

    • Technology transfer center in the field of road construction technology and traffic engineering and management.
