Unit's Objectives and Activities

The MPEU being a part of Ain Shams University, is compelled to set new standards for consultancy work. Not only does it aim at providing uniquely high quality technical services for the industry, but it also addresses the governmental infrastructure projects. Asses to that, the MPEU is ready to provide training courses for the personnel involved in various industrial fields, enhancing their educational capabilities and ensuring an increase in their efficiency.

Backed up with the vast experience and knowledge of the staff of the Mechanical Power Department, the unit feels quite confident that it is capable of covering full consultancy work, designing, research development , project supervision or even experimentation and calibration.

The engineering Fields of interest of the unit are stated below:

Equipments and Facilities


Unit Researches and Equipments:

  • Measuring the performance of refrigeration and air conditioning units.

  • Measuring the heat transfer coefficients for insulation and metallic materials.

  • Measuring the performance of centrifugal and axial flow pumps up to 50 kilo watt.

  • Subsonic wind tunnel, Test section 305 x 305 mm.

  • Subsonic wind tunnel, Test section 1000 x 1000 mm.

  • Subsonic wind tunnel, Test section 25.4 x 25.4 mm.

  • Evaluating the performance of wind turbines.

  • Calibration of different measurement & control devices & instruments, according to the International Standards.

  • Hot-Wire Anemometer to measure velocity, (one and two components).

  • Laser Doppler Velcometers, (one and two components).

  • Measuring Environmental pollution for different gases.

  • Measuring properties of oils and fuels.

Laboratories of the MPEU:

Previous Practical Experience


The following are some of the jobs that were performed by the unit.

Steam Power Station:

  • Design of a steam condenser for "Boldwin Company".

  • Review of the "Steam generation by solar energy" for Al-Nasr for chemicals and renewable energy. (This included reviewing the hydraulic design and the control mechanism).


Gas turbines, Diesel engine and Petrol engines:

  • Examining the troubleshooting in caterpillar generators for "Petrojet Company", Port Said.

  • Engineering consultancy to determine the reasons for the incident of a diesel engine fracture in "The National Company for Corn Products".

  • Technical inspection of a pickup vehicle for "Milling Company".

  • Testing of spare parts for Daihatsu engine for "The Egyptian Contractors Company (Mokhtar Ibrahim Mokhtar)".


Conservation of Energy consumption:

  • Rationalization of light oil consumption for "Ain Shams Specialist Hospital".

  • Rationalization of energy consumption for "Farm Frits and Milky Land companies".


Design of engineering system to prevent environmental pollution:

  • Development of an environmental friendly firing system for brick manufacturing association.


Environmental impact assessment:

  • Measuring of air pollution for bricks companies in Gharbia and Dakahlia territories.

  • Environmental impact assessment for "Al-Ahram Beverage Company" for the following factories:

    • Al-Ahram beverage factory in Badr city.

    • Al-Ahram beverage factory in Al-Obour city.

    • The expansion of Al-Ahram Beverages factory in Sharkia.

    • The "Ritch" Company Warehouse in Obour city.

  • Inspection and prevention of the environmental pollution in the printing shop of Dar Al-Helal.

  • Environmental impact assessment for "San Paul Chocolates and Milk Products", Badr city.


Cathodic Protection:

  • Design of cathodic protection system for "Beni Sweif Pertolium Pipeline Company".

  • Design of cathodic protection system for El-Tebin - Assyout pipeline for "Pipelines Petroleum Company".


Boilers and Furnaces:

  • Sheraton hotel boilers.

  • Boilers for "Port-Said Company for Ready Made Clothes".

  • Boilers for "El-Sahel Educational Hospital".

  • Boilers of "Al-Ettehad" investment company for food products "Unit Food".


Air Conditioning, refrigeration and Freezing:

  • Design of a freezing cylinder for ice-cream machine, "Misr Mlk Company".

  • Testing of air filters for "Ain Shams Specialized Hospital".

  • Calibration of measuring instruments for "Walls Okner Company", for air conditioning.


Water and fuel pipelines networks:

  • Preparation of technical specification for light diesel fuel oil network for "Ain Shams Specialized Hospital".

  • Inspection of sewage network for slaughterhouse in Faiyoum city.

  • Inspection pressure of sewage network for Aktko company for construction.

  • Preparation of the place designed for the kitchens and laundry service, as well as their technical specifications for the "Labor University".


Air and medical gases network:

  • Design of medical gases network for the extension of "Arab Contractors Hospital".

  • Air pressure test for "Egypt compy company" for compressors.


Turbo-machinery (Fans, Pumps and Water turbines:

  • Feasibility study of "Manufacturing of irrigation pumps" for Industrial Development Bank.

  • Testing pumps for "Genaina company".

  • Testing seven centrifugals pumps for "Experience and Poject House".

  • Testing 4 suction "Ira" Fans for "Ibrahim El-Shimy Engineering Industries".

Fire Fighting and Alarm networks:

  • Testing of thermal insulation for specimen for "Hay-Top Company for commercial and contractors".

  • Testing of 3 valves for "Quality Center, Ministry of Industry".


Calibration of measuring instruments:

  • Calibration of measuring instruments for "Arab Medicine Company" and "Nile Medicine Company" according to the ISO 9000.

  • Calibration of blood pressure gauges for "Ain Shams Specialized Hospital".

  • Valves calibration for "El-Temsah Company for ship building".

  • Nitrogen tanks calibration for "Misr Panel Company".

  • In site testing of the condenser pump for "Shobra-El-Kheimah Power Station". diameter=2500 mm.
