Amr M. E. Safwat received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. in electronics and electrical communication engineering from Ain Shams University in 1993 and 1997, respectively, the BSc in accounting from Ain Shams University in 1997, and the MSc and Ph.D. from University of Maryland at College Park in electrical engineering, in 2000 and 2001, respectively. From Aug. 2001 to Aug. 2002, he was with Cascade Microtech Inc. where he co-invented the RF infinity probes. In Aug. 2002, he joined the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Ain Shams University, where he is currently, full professor.

Dr. Safwat had held visiting professor positions at Otto-Von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany (Sept. 04-Nov. 04), “Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble”, Grenoble, France (Sept. 05-Nov. 05), and the Radio Laboratory and MilliLab, University of Aalto, Finland (Jul. 06-Jun. 07). He has 8 issued US patents, and 85 international journal and conference papers.

Dr. Safwat was awarded the Egyptian state incentive award for engineering sciences twice, in 2007 and in 2014. His research interests include metamaterial, microwave passive planar structures, and microwave photonics.
